Security Guard - Upgrade/Caliber Change

Course description: This is the course required by the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance to obtain an Armed Security Guard License. This course will cover the Tennessee Private Protective Services Law and Rules book and will follow the guidelines set forth by the state. This course is conducted over two days and covers everything needed to get an armed guard license. Topics covered will be: report writing, patroling, first aid, uniform, jurisdiction, force continuum, firearm cleaning & operation, laws and regulations, etc. There will be a written test and firearm qualification on the range. Photographs, paperwork, workbooks, firearm use, ammunition, etc. are included in the cost of the class.

This class (12 hours) is required by the State of Tennessee for any guard who wants to change caliber from the caliber they origionally qualified with.

If an unarmed guard wants to upgrade from an unarmed guard to an armed guard they have to take this 12 hour course and they are required to have taken the unarmed portion of the course within the last 6 months. If it has been longer than 6 months since they first got their unarmed license, they have to take the 16 hour class in order to get an armed license.
